Successful season for Iqaluit project

The first season of a two-year project in Iqaluit, Nunavut has drawn to a successful close with about 50 percent of the total project completed. Valard is upgrading the town’s overhead and underground electrical system from 4 kV to 25 kV to improve service reliability. In the first construction season, Valard crews re-insulated, changed poles and transformers, strung in new conductor and converted about a third of the town to 25 kV. Valard crews will return in the spring of 2012 for the second season, with anticipated completion in fall 2012.


Valard opens first East Coast office

Valard has opened a new office in Halifax, Nova Scotia, firmly establishing its presence in Atlantic Canada. The company is actively bidding on projects throughout the region in both power and telecommunications industries. Chris Colborne heads business development for the region, contributing years of experience in the communications and industrial sectors. Atlantic Canada operations are headed by Vicki Marks, Vice President of Ontario and Eastern Canada Operations. 


Valard opens new Toronto office

August 3, 2011

Valard has a new home in the Greater Toronto Area. The company has signed a lease for a building and operations centre in Vaughan to support not only its operations in Toronto but also its expansion into surrounding areas and southern Ontario.


Iqaluit conversion project begins

July 12, 2011

Valard started work today on a new project to convert and upgrade electrical facilities in Iqaluit, Nunavut. The overhead and underground electrical system is being upgraded from 4 kV to 25 kV in order to provide more reliable service to the community.


Linemen to be trained to “work off the skid”

July 15, 2011

Valard crews working on the Bruce to Milton 500-kV project in Ontario have completed the head and tail of the project, and are now concentrating on closing the gap between the Bruce Power facility near Kindcardine, Ontario and the Milton switching station near Toronto.
