Wandering River Rebuild

Design and build project in northern Alberta. Work included engineering, design and rebuilding 7 km of double-circuit distribution line on the opposite side of a roadway. Material from the old line was collected and salvaged.

The biggest challenge was building through spring break-up and dealing with the very rainy weather – the ground was soft and swampy, but the project was completed on time, on budget and without incident.

Syncrude Rebuild, Confederation Way Rebuild, Cold Lake Rebuild

Three projects with the same scope of work: converting overhead distribution lines to an underground system. This included building a conduit system, pulling cable through, installing switching cubes, splicing into existing cables and re-feeding transformers, as well as testing and commissioning the line and salvaging the old overhead materials.

Challenges included a short construction period and working in very congested areas. The project was completed to schedule, on budget and with no safety incidents.

Southern Alberta Irrigation Expansion

The Government of Alberta initiated a program to install irrigation systems for farmers living and working in dry areas of the province. To power the pumps of the irrigation system, the entire area had to be upgraded from a single-phase 14.4-kV to a three-phase 25-kV distribution system. In total, 300 km of overhead distribution line was built.

The project needed to be completed in a very short timeline before the farming season started. The majority of the work was started in January 2009 during the cold winter season and completed in April 2009 during the muddy spring break-up. A smaller portion of the system was also converted from January to April 2010.

The project was completed in the allotted time, on budget and without incident.
